A IS FOR ARBOL: The English Latin Alphabet Written in 26 Foreign Languages by Julio R. Lopez Jr is a picture and learning book for children which offers unique words to represent each letter of the alphabet, and using the names of things from all around the world. It is a multi-cultural book, which promotes learning and opens up a new world in the form of language. From familiar languages like French and Spanish - A is for arbol (arbol means tree in Spanish), the author also uses slightly more obscure languages such as Catalan and Czech. The pictures which accompany the words are a little abstract and lack a lot of color but they suit the theme of the book. I think adults would be more likely to pick the book off the shelf than children.
Julio R. Lopez Jr has produced an interesting book in A is for Arbol. Some of the words may be a little above certain age levels and difficult for a child to pronounce. For example U is for 'Ugbo elu.' It does encourage and aid in the development of language skills, however, and would do well for parents who want their children to have a varied vocabulary and learn more about the world. It is only a starter though, and they would need more than one word to know what the language is like. Overall, I think it would appeal to parents, but I doubt it would be a bedtime favorite.
